Job Summary:

Provides support to the FHI 360-led, USAID-funded, Act to End NTDs | West program intended to support disease-endemic countries to control and/or eliminate neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) with proven, cost-effective public health interventions to treat and measure treatment impact against seven NTDs: lymphatic filariasis, trachoma, onchocerciasis, schistosomiasis, and three intestinal worms known as soil-transmitted helminths.

Performs work in the operation of a vehicle to assure safe transportation of clients to and from various destinations in the country office. Assists clients during entry and exit from vehicles as necessary and other courtesies.

Assumes responsibility for care and maintenance of the vehicle; washes exterior and cleans interior; ensures maintenance and repair of the vehicle.


Accountabilities:

Responsible for the operation, use and maintenance of the assigned vehicle.

Responsible for the accounting of each trip, record keeping and paperwork of each trip using the vehicle logbook to ensure that vehicle operation activities are in accordance with the regulations.

Report any problems identified in the vehicle and ensure that all vehicle permits and documents are renewed on time and as needed.

Supports the implementation of the program through the implementation of defined travel, safety and security approaches, procedures and safety protocols.

Transports Country Office staff, consultants, and visitors to designated approved locations.

Ensures safety, cleanliness, security and maintenance of the vehicle.

Provides day-to-day maintenance of the vehicle with timely oil changes, inspections, brakes, and tire pressure.

Makes arrangements for major repairs for the vehicle when needed.

Ensures all required documents with the vehicle are in order and up to date regarding vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, and necessary spare parts.

Plans route and requirements based on schedule or ad-hoc requests by the office.

Ensures passengers adhere to all road safety regulations.

Fulfills special requests by picking up and delivering items as directed and running errands.

May provide protection for clients in locations deemed high risk.

Performs any other duties as assigned.

Identifies and recognizes problems that have established procedures and limited impact.

Refers non-standard questions and problems to higher level.

Errors can be easily and quickly detected within the immediate work unit and would result in only minor disruption or expense to correct.

Supervision Given/Received:

Reports to Human Resources Officer.


Education:

A post-secondary degree.


Experience:

Must have a valid Senegalese driver's license.

Good knowledge of automobile mechanics required. A certificate in car maintenance is desired.

Minimum of 5 years’ experience in driving manual transmission vehicles required.

Experience with USAID or similar projects desired.

Thorough knowledge of road safety rules and regulations required.

Honest, mature, and discreet.

Proficiency in written and spoken French. Proficiency in additional languages of Senegal, desired.

Working knowledge of computers: Microsoft Word and Excel.

Willing to travel to project sites regularly.

Pass the vision test.


Typical Physical Demands:

Driving a vehicle both within and outside of the city, for long distances on difficult roads as needed.

Ability to lift 5-50 lbs.


Technology to be Used:

Personal Computer, Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), e-mail, telephone, printer, calculator, copier, cell phones, PDAs and other hand-held devices.


Travel Requirements:

Up to 50%, dependent on program needs.

Must have legal permission to work in Senegal. Applications from female candidates are encouraged.
