Position Purpose

 

This position covers both local as well as triangular businesses, with separate portfolios and business models for three (3) divisions in 24 West & Central African countries.

On one hand the local business is related to local billings within the local WCA teams lead by the Country Division Head and Country Commercial Lead. On the other hand, the triangular business includes tender offers lead by the EMEA team along with the country Commercial Lead and Country Division Head.


The position entails a wide range of operational and strategic tasks including mainly Credit risk management activities such as credit limit analysis and approvals, risk management while maximizing sales, insure the efficient collection of overdues and full compliance with group (triangular business) and local credit policies.

 

Main tasks or responsibilities of the position

 

      Credit Terms / Credit exposure / Collections / Financing Programs

 

  • Institutes and negotiates credit terms (sales terms) with the country business leads according to the market and the competition environment;
  • Monitoring the A/R for trends and warning signs and keep the Regional Finance and Credit team informed;
  • Actively chase collections in cooperation with sales team and/or directly with customers. Manage the A/R exposure and minimize losses. Support business achievement of cash goals for both local and triangular business portfolios;
  • Execute cash and/or risk mitigation initiative such as credit insurance or customer finance programs, in agreement with the local and EMEA Credit Strategies;
  • In cooperation with legal team handling legal or other recovery actions against non-payers.

 

Credit Policy / Compliance / Reporting / Projects

 

  • Implementing the Credit Policy on how and under what circumstances credit will be offered, using accepted analytical techniques and business acumen to evaluate economic risk;
  • Establish credit limit every year for every customer in both local billings and export sales portfolios;
  • Monitor external and internal credit information to be included in the assessment model (customer payment history, credit agency reports, financial statements, commercial recommendation) in both local and triangular business portfolios;
  • Maintain an acceptable level of risk of the customers, aligned with local and global corporate guidance;
  • Prepares all the reports/analysis requested by EMEA credit team and make appropriate suggestions for improvement both local and triangular business portfolios;
  • Submit and participate in the Quarterly Exposure Reviews with Hub and headquarters for both local billings and export sales portfolios in both local and triangular business portfolios;
  • Host monthly credit committees, with actual reports on overdues and qualitative explanations to the credit committee members for each division;
  • Ensures that credit operations are compliant with his Delegation of Authority, Corporate Policies in view of recurrent audits;
  • Participation in Projects and provide Ad Hoc analysis to business unit level (ES, CP, Seeds);
  • Participate in audit activities where needed.

  • Minimize risks before receivables occur by defining, evaluating and controlling the credit standing of the customers in both local and triangular business portfolios;
  • Be recognized as the local process owner of credit management in the region in close coordination with EMEA region;
  • Address specific complexity linked to microfinancing, multiple currencies, inflation profiles amongst others;
  • Ensure smooth workflow among all internal and external parties for the appropriate handling of credit guarantees such as letter of credit in the region;
  • Propose high quality solutions for regional customer financing;
  • Set the ground base for growth potential in customer relationship similar to Brazil market;
  • Optimize Credit Analysis and Cash Collection and thereby improve the cash flow of legacy Bayer and legacy Monsanto in West & Central Africa for both local and triangular business portfolios.

 

 

Skills & Qualifications

 

  •  Master’s degree in Business and Economics or any other relevant/equivalent title in Finance/Treasury/Risk Management (ACCA, CFA, CIMA)
  • 3-5 years’ experience in Finance, Banking, Audit and/or Credit Risk Management
  • Financial analysis (financial statements interpretation)
  • Credit and risk management tools
  • Knowledge of SAP (billing, receivables and reporting processes)
  • French and English (fluent) written and verbal
  • Good interpersonal awareness and strong social skills
  • Strong ability to communicate across different cultures and functions
  • Proactive in driving of Bayer overarching initiatives with a high degree of passion for results
  • Strong customer focus
  • Problem solving skills and highly solutions oriented
